Privacy Policy

Fate is a live, algorithm-matched dating app. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be readable — if anything is unclear, email us at hello@fateconnect.app.

1. Who we are

Fate ("Fate", "we", "us") operates the mobile and web experience at fateconnect.app. If you're an EEA/UK resident, we act as the data controller for information you share with us.

2. Information we collect

You give us directly

• Account details: name, date of birth, email, phone number, password.
• Profile: photos, short bio, pronouns, gender, sexual orientation, interests.
• Onboarding answers: personality and compatibility questions used by our matching algorithm.
• Face verification: a short live selfie compared against your profile photo to confirm the person on camera is you. The selfie is used only to produce a pass/fail signal and a non-reversible facial template; the raw image is deleted within 30 days.
• Communications: messages you send matches after a successful live date, support tickets, reports you file.

Collected automatically

• Approximate location (city / region) to power local matching.
• Device and log data: IP address, device model, OS, app version, crash logs, timestamps.
• Usage: which screens you open, matches you accept or pass, call duration.

Live calls

Fate live dates are peer-to-peer where possible. We do not record video or audio of your dates. We keep metadata about the call (participants, start/end time, connection quality, whether it was ended early or reported) so we can enforce our rules and improve matching.

3. Why we use it

• To match you with people you're likely to click with, based on your answers, activity, and location.
• To operate the live call feature and let matches keep talking afterwards.
• To verify identity and keep bots, catfishing, and impersonation off the platform.
• To enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms, investigate reports, and respond to legal requests.
• To send transactional emails (confirmations, security alerts) and, if you opt in, product updates.

4. Legal bases (EEA / UK)

• Performance of our contract with you — running the service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interests — safety, fraud prevention, product improvement.
• Consent — sensitive data (sexuality, precise location if enabled), marketing emails.
• Legal obligation — responding to lawful requests, tax, record-keeping.

5. Sharing

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with:

• Other users — the profile info and photos you choose to show.
• Service providers under contract: hosting and database (Supabase / Lovable Cloud), email delivery, analytics, live-video infrastructure, identity/face-verification, and abuse detection.
• Law enforcement when we're legally required, or where we believe someone is at risk of serious harm.
• An acquirer in the event of a merger or sale (you'll be notified).

6. Retention

• Active account data is kept while your account is open.
• Face verification selfies: deleted within 30 days; the derived template is kept while your account is open.
• Call metadata: 12 months, then aggregated.
• Reports and moderation records: up to 5 years to prevent repeat offenders from returning.
• When you delete your account, we remove your profile within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal or safety reasons.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can request access, correction, deletion, portability, or object to certain uses. EEA/UK users can lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit use of sensitive data. To exercise any of these, email privacy@fateconnect.app.

8. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed. Access to production data is restricted and logged. No online service is 100% secure — if we ever discover a breach that affects you, we'll tell you as required by law.

9. Children

Fate is strictly 18+. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a minor is on Fate, email safety@fateconnect.app and we'll remove the account.

10. International transfers

Fate is operated from the United States. If you're outside the US, your data is transferred here under Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.

11. Changes

We'll post updates on this page and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect.
